On Tuesday, July 23rd, the Havelock Military Affairs Committee (MAC) honored the July 2024 Service Person of the Quarter with an award luncheon. This Quarter's Awardee was Sgt. Tyler Mackey.

Sgt. Mackey was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 24th, 2019. Afterward, he became a 6282 Fixed Wing Safety Equipment Mechanic on the AV-8. Sgt. Mackey reported to Marine Attack Squadron VMA-223 in Cherry Point, North Carolina, in March of 2020. He served as an Egress Environmental Systems Mechanic. Sgt. Mackey deployed on the 24th MEU, where he was later promoted to Corporal in August 2021. Shortly after, he deployed to Norway for a Cold Response Exercise in 2022, where he served as the NCOIC of 13B. While still at VMA-223, he went on to be promoted to the rank of Sergeant in July of 2023. Locally, Sgt. Mackey serves as a Board Member for Havelock Youth Soccer Association where, for the last several years, he has been holding the unique responsibility of managing the concession stand money and food preparation.

Sgt. Mackey was nominated by GySgt. Kyle Moskiewicz, who stated that he nominated Sgt. Mackey because "[He] consistently goes above and beyond for the Marine Corps and his community. [He] has dedicated over two years to his local community and is highly deserving to be recognized for his unwavering devotion."

Mayor William L. Lewis issued a Proclamation honoring Sgt. Mackey, which was delivered by Commissioner Tyrone Cantey. The Havelock MAC presented him with a plaque and check, while members of the MAC Committee also gave gifts.
